Kelly McCormack Ingram, a 2008 graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) College of Law, has been elected Brevard County judge in Group 2. Ingram was elected during the General Election on Nov. 8, beating attorney Rod Kernan.

“The reason I ran for judge is that I want to be in position to do what’s right,” said Ingram, who will be assigned to the misdemeanor criminal court.

Ingram is a solo practitioner with the Law Offices of Kelly McCormack Ingram in Cocoa, Florida, where she focuses on civil, family and criminal defense law. After graduating with honors from FAMU’s College of Law, Ingram started her legal career as an assistant state attorney, where she handled thousands of criminal cases. She also practiced in the appellate court, where she gained exceptional trial experience. Ingram then became an associate attorney with the largest family law and criminal defense firm in Brevard County before opening her own practice.

“A law school is only as strong as the achievements and contributions of its students, faculty and alumni,” said Felecia Epps, dean of the FAMU College of Law. “We celebrate the professional achievement of our alumna, the Honorable Judge Ingram, and look forward to the many contributions toward justice she and other alumni will make for years to come.”

Ingram is a member of the American Bar Association, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Brevard County Bar Association, Brevard County Association for Women Lawyers (where she served as Director), and the National Association for Professional Women.

She has been married for more than 20 years and has a daughter starting college. She will be sworn in as a county judge in the 18th Judicial Circuit on Jan. 3, 2017 in Viera, Florida. She will join several other graduates of the original FAMU College of Law who have served as judges, including Ralph Flowers (1968), Alcee Hastings (1963), Perker Meeks (1968) and Edward Rogers (1963).
