Jones served as the Head Coach of the Lincoln University Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams from 1974 to 2010, leading Lincoln to 17 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships. Lincoln’s men won 13 national titles and Lincoln’s women won four NCAA championships under his leadership. Jones, 72, played baseball all his life growing up in Jacksonville, Fla. In recognition of Jones’ accomplishments, Jones won the Lindback Teaching Award (1982) and the Outstanding Men of America Award (1984). Jones received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. He was named Mid-East Region Track Coach of the Year and won NCAA Div. III Indoor Championship meet (2006). Jones has been named Division III National Coach of the Year six times: 1985, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000.

A FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication graduate, Shackelford received a News and Documentary Emmy for her work on the CNN special “Election Night in America.” Formerly an associate producer for CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Shackelford served as producer for the 24-hour news network’s election night special, which received the honor under the category of “Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story.” Currently, she is the Account Executive for Strauss Media Strategies. A Tallahassee native and 2005 broadcast journalism graduate, Shackelford credits much of her success in journalism to the foundation she received as a student at FAMU. She specifically credits the late Dean James E. Hawkins, Ph.D. and 90.5 WANM FM Director and professor Keith Miles for their direct influence in her personal and professional development and the work ethic they imparted in her.
